What licenses and registrations do I need to start a photography and video business in Owings Mills, MD?

Lando Visions is off to a smart start by getting the paperwork right first. Pairing photos with video lets you sell bigger packages to couples and small businesses who want everything from one creative partner. Since your goals are to protect your personal assets, limit exposure from sales, clients, employees, or debt and look more credible to customers and banks, the LLC sits at the center of this plan. Below we walk through the three things every new business in Maryland sorts out (structure, tax IDs, and licenses) and then sum it all up.

What Lando Visions needs

  1. LLC (limited liability company) – An LLC keeps business debts and lawsuits separate from your personal home and savings. A guest who trips over your light stand at a reception may sue, and an LLC keeps that claim from reaching your personal assets. Once profits grow, an LLC can elect S corporation tax treatment, which can lower self-employment tax; ask a tax adviser when the numbers justify it.
  2. DBA (doing business as) registration – Registering "Lando Visions" tells the public who stands behind the name. If you form an LLC under that exact name, the LLC filing itself protects the name and a separate DBA is usually unnecessary.
  3. EIN (federal tax ID number) – You plan on 1 employee, so the federal tax ID number (EIN) is required for payroll, and you will also use it for the business bank account and supplier accounts.
  4. Maryland sales tax permit (seller's permit) – Needed if you sell products alongside your service, and it lets you buy resale items tax-free.
  5. Maryland employer ID – With 1 employee, you need a state employer account number for payroll withholding and unemployment insurance. It works like the EIN, but for state payroll taxes.
  6. Business license – Governments license businesses so they can collect a modest tax, usually based on gross receipts or a flat yearly amount, and keep inspectors checking safety: exits, fire extinguishers, and how many people a space can hold. Plan on one for Lando Visions in Owings Mills.

By the numbers: Banks, insurers, and tax forms will ask for your industry code. For a photography and video business it is NAICS 541921 (Photography Studios, Portrait). With 1 employee planned, you are already creating jobs in Owings Mills. That makes 6 items on your list.

Tip: Insure your gear and carry liability coverage, since many venues require proof of insurance before you can shoot there.

To recap: Lando Visions in Owings Mills, MD needs an LLC, a DBA, an EIN, a sales tax permit for product sales, a state employer ID, and a business license. Check them off one by one and you will open with confidence.

How do I get a photography and video business in New Hampton, NH licensed and registered?

The owner wrote: “I am a photographer who wants to sell my photos. I'm trying to get a business license, an EIN, and a seller's permit, and I want to start providing prints and gifts. I'm going to file as an LLC.”

Though My Eyes is off to a smart start by getting the paperwork right first. Weddings, newborns, headshots, and brand content keep cameras busy year-round, and happy clients come back for every milestone. You told us you want to protect your personal assets, limit exposure from sales, clients, employees, or debt and look more credible to customers and banks, and that is exactly what an LLC is built for. In this answer you will find the business structure, the tax registrations, and the local and industry licenses for Though My Eyes, plus a short recap at the end.

Filing as an LLC is a good move for a photographer, since a missed shoot or a copyright dispute stays with the company, and your contracts should state who owns the images and how prints may be used. New Hampshire has no general sales tax, so prints and gifts sold there do not require a seller's permit, though a state where you ship or shoot may. A local business license and an EIN are the normal next steps. Get model releases for people in your photos, and write down your delivery terms. Golden-hour shoots are fun, but the paperwork is what makes them pay.

What Though My Eyes needs

  1. LLC (limited liability company) – An LLC shields your house, car, and savings from claims against the business, and it looks more established to customers and banks. If you miss the first kiss because a memory card fails, an unhappy couple's claim stays with the business when you have an LLC. Once profits grow, an LLC can elect S corporation tax treatment, which can lower self-employment tax; ask a tax adviser when the numbers justify it.
  2. DBA (doing business as) registration – If you operate as a sole proprietor, or under a name different from your LLC's exact legal name, registering "Though My Eyes" lets you use it on signs, invoices, and your business bank account.
  3. EIN (federal tax ID number) – The federal tax ID number (EIN) identifies the business for taxes. You need it for an LLC, a business bank account, wholesale suppliers, and your first hire.
  4. Sales tax – New Hampshire has no statewide sales tax, so you usually will not need a sales tax permit for sales made in New Hampshire. If you sell into other states, their rules may apply.
  5. Business license – Most places require a local business license to operate, including home-based businesses. Check the rules where Though My Eyes will operate in New Hampton, and ask about home occupation and zoning rules if you work from home.

By the numbers: Banks, insurers, and tax forms will ask for your industry code. For a photography and video business it is NAICS 541921 (Photography Studios, Portrait). That makes 5 items on your list.

Tip: Insure your gear and carry liability coverage, since many venues require proof of insurance before you can shoot there.

To recap: Though My Eyes in New Hampton, NH needs an LLC, a DBA, an EIN, and a business license. Check them off one by one and you will open with confidence.

I need advice on business insurance, finding investors, a website and advertising for my record label. Does the LLC service include the state fee and an operating agreement?
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

For a record label, an LLC is the right base. You handle artists' contracts, royalties and releases, and the LLC separates any dispute from your personal assets. The state's filing charge is shown apart from our service fee on the order page, and the operating agreement is prepared with your LLC, so your bank can open the account.

• Insurance: ask an insurance agent about general liability and media liability for a label, plus coverage for equipment.
• Investors: they usually want a formed LLC, an operating agreement and clean books first, then a clear plan for how their money is used.
• Website and advertising: register the name and open the bank account before you spend on promotion.

A surety bond is not what you need. Insurance protects you from claims, while bonds guarantee performance in certain regulated trades.

Do I need an LLC and a tax ID if my items are not taxable in my state? I also need to register a business at an address in Georgia.
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

Yes, an LLC still makes sense even when your products are not taxable. Taxability is only about sales tax, while the LLC is about protecting your personal assets from product and customer claims, and about credibility. With investors in mind, a formal company is what they will want to see.

On the tax ID, you still need an EIN for banking and federal taxes, since that is separate from sales tax. A seller's permit may not be needed if everything you sell is exempt, but many suppliers and marketplaces still ask for one, so check with them. Health and beauty products can be taxable in other places, so check where you sell.

For the Georgia address, I cannot supply an office location. Register the business at the real place where you operate, or use a registered agent's address for state papers. A local business license depends on that location.

I live in New York and want to start a mobile petting zoo. I also want to sell gift baskets by taking the order and having a company ship it. What do I need, and can I charge sales tax?
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

A mobile petting zoo carries real risk, since children and animals mix and a bite or a fall could lead to a claim. An LLC is the proper vehicle, because it separates that exposure from your personal assets, and it can bring in investors. A foreign owner is fine for an LLC.

• Petting zoo: animal exhibits are regulated, so expect animal health paperwork, permits for events, and liability insurance that venues will ask for.
• Business license, locally, plus approvals for each event location.
• EIN, for banking and taxes.

For the gift baskets, to charge sales tax you need a seller's permit, which in New York is registered as a certificate of authority. Even if you never touch the product or the money, if you take the order and your company is the seller, you generally must be registered to collect tax. If the other company is the seller of record, it may handle that, so clarify who sells.

How long does it take to get a reseller's permit in New York with expedited service? I do not have a certificate of authority for my LLC. I also have questions about zoning for a home inspection business.
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

In New York, the sales tax registration is called a certificate of authority, and a reseller's permit is built on it, so you do need one for your LLC. We can file it with expedited handling, which moves faster than standard processing, but I cannot promise a specific number of days because timing depends on the application.

Home inspection is a service, so the permit matters mainly if you also sell products or tools that are taxable. Your LLC fits the business well: inspectors face claims when something is missed, and the LLC separates those from your personal assets.

• Zoning: a home office is usually allowed, but you do not need a vote from the town council in most cases. Ask locally whether a home occupation approval applies.
• Professional license: home inspectors are licensed in many places, so confirm before you take clients.

File the certificate of authority well before your first sale, since New York asks that you register in advance.

What license do I need to buy seafood in Louisiana, transport it to Tennessee and sell it to restaurants and the public, and do I need a wholesale license?
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

Form an LLC before anything else. Moving fresh shrimp and other seafood across state lines involves spoilage, illness and vehicle risks, and the LLC protects your personal assets while showing restaurants that they are dealing with an established company. A foreign owner can hold an LLC, too.

• EIN, for the account, payroll and supplier accounts.
• Seller's permit: it works as your wholesale and resale registration, so you can buy without tax and sell with tax. You may need one wherever you sell.
• Seafood dealer permit: seafood is regulated at each step, including buying, cold storage and delivery, so ask where your product is sourced and sold.
• Business license, locally.

Whether you open a fish market or a restaurant, each needs its own food permits and inspections.
