Starting a(n) cleaning Business Licenses & Tax IDs
Hi, I'm Robin Semmes 36575
Provide residential interior cleaning services for home owners also prepare interior of homes to be sold along with new tenancy for rental companies.

Hello Robin, welcome! It's great to see someone who's ready to take on the world of entrepreneurship. Now, let's get down to business!

Startin..., Robin.
Hi, I'm Lori Wisconsin Rapids Wisconsin 54495
I am cleaning for small businesses and houses that are within the area. I bring all supplies to be able to get the job done in my own personal vehicle. Everybody wants to save the earth; no one wants to help mom do the dishes.
, Lori.

As the majority of cleaning businesses, 99.9%, you will need an occupational business license even if you obtain a free LLC filing or you incorporate. In addition, you may need a federal tax ID number, and if you sell any merchandise, you will need a resale tax ID number.

Also note that all LLC s need an occupational business license. Also, if the LLC has more than one member, or you will file a tax return for the LLC as a corporation as opposed as a cleaning disregarded entity, you will need a federal tax ID number for the LLC .
Starting a business fist step is to choose the tax legal structure. There are three major ones:
1. Sole proprietor,
2. Partnership, and
3. Corporation or Limited Liability Company.

All small, home or web based cleaning businesses as well as big businesses must choose and register as on of the above. In addition, businesses must obtain a business tax registration occupational license receipt. If selling any taxable cleaning items,a business must also get a reseller ID number to buy wholesale and sell retail. Finally, if a business is an employer, it needs to get a federal EIN and a State EIN.

Hello Robin, welcome! It's great to see someone who's ready to take on the world of entrepreneurship. Now, let's get down to business!

Starting Your Business: Licenses and Registrations
Starting a business can be a bit overwhelming, but don't worry, you're not alone. First things first, you'll need to decide on your business structure. Since you're planning to offer services and sell products, you'll need to apply for a general business license. Depending on the state you're in, you may also need to obtain a specific license for your cleaning business. To operate under a name other than your own, you'll need to register for a DBA. Additionally, if you plan on hiring employees, you'll need to apply for both a federal and state EIN. The NAICS code for your business would be 561720.

Choosing Your Business Structure

As a new business owner, deciding on your business structure can be a bit tricky. As a sole proprietor, you would be personally liable for any debts and legal issues that may arise.

On the other hand, incorporating your business as an S corp or an LLC provides you with more protection and reduces your personal liability.

And yes, incorporating as an S corp could save you money on federal income tax. As always, consult with an attorney or tax professional to determine what business structure is best for you.

Wholesale Purchases and Sales Tax

To purchase your merchandise and supplies at a discounted rate, you'll need to obtain a seller's permit. This will allow you to buy items wholesale without having to pay sales tax.

However, when you sell your items, you'll need to charge sales tax to your customers. The sales tax rate varies from state to state, but it's typically around 5-10%. You can check with your state's department of revenue for more information.

Business Name and Pricing

Now, let's talk about the fun stuff. When it comes to naming your business, be creative and don't be afraid to have a little fun. Here are a few suggestions: Clean Sweep Inc., Sparkle and Shine LLC, or The Dust Busters Co.

As for pricing, you'll want to do some market research to determine what your competitors are charging. From there, you can set your prices accordingly. Don't forget to factor in the cost of your supplies and equipment, as well as your time and labor.

Estimated Costs and Annual Income

Starting a business can be costly, but the good news is that you've already purchased your equipment and supplies. Other costs to consider include insurance, marketing, and any necessary licenses and registrations.

Depending on your state and the type of licenses you need, the costs can range from $50 to $500 or more. As for your annual income, it really depends on the number of clients you have and the services you provide. On average, a residential cleaning business can make anywhere from $25,000 to $80,000 a year.

Humorous Success Quote

Now, let's end on a high note. As the great comedian Joan Rivers once said, "I succeeded by saying what everyone else is thinking." Remember to be yourself, be creative, and don't be afraid to stand out from the crowd. Good luck on your entrepreneurial journey, Robin!

From sole propr., SC LLC, SC partneship or SC Corp.: Each requires an entity certificate filing.

All Internet Business   businesses/entities need a business license and an EIN.

Selling/Buying wholesale or retail requires a SC   seller's permit.

You can choose to be a(n) :

  • Sole Proprietor,
  • LLC,
  • Corporation or
  • Partnership.
After you decide and select your business entity, you need licensing.

Myrtle Beach Business Tax Registration ( Business License)
All businesses including home, online or mobile BUSINESS need a BUSINESS license because they are BUSINESSES.

A(n) business doing business under an assumed business name in Horry County i.e. you are a business that uses a DBA doing business as trade name to trade that is other than the full legal (first and last -- full name) name of a sole proprietor or a name other than the LLC or Corporation business name need a(n) assumed business name certificate.   E.g. you venture into a(n) business and you give it a trade name such as "Excellence & Associates". You will need to register an assumed business name certificate.

In SC you need a resale ID ( AKA seller's permit) if you selling touchable items.  (A.K.A state id, wholesale, resale, reseller certificate, about $39 for most states).
Seller's Permit

Note: All businesses need a federal tax ID number except sole proprietors that are not employers and are not independent contractors.
An independent contractor is a self employed business person that receives more than $600 per year from anyone of his or her clients.
IRS rule: The client must issue a 1099 form to the independent contractor and the independent contractor must have a federal tax ID. However, even sole owners may obtain a federal ID and use it as a business tax ID instead of using their own social security number as a business tax ID number.
However, all other licenses that apply to sole proprietors as discussed here are requited regardless of getting a federal tax ID number.

Also keep in mind that employers will need to obtain a federal EIN and a State EIN tax identificattion number. I.e., a SC Federal Tax Id Number ($29)  and a(n) SC  State Employer Tax Number

Instead of filing a fictitious business name DBA Filing (about $49 plus state and legal newspaper publication fees) in Myrtle Beach, Incorporate in SC  or form a(n) SC LLC

Filing a DBA is not required if you will set up an LLC or form a Corporation. If you will do business under your first and last legal name you will not need to get a fictitious business name.
Using any language that connotes additional owners in the name of the business makes filing a fictitious business name mandatory.

If you do form an   llc or incorporate (about $49 plus state fees for most states) your business instead of just filing a fictitious business name (dba), that insurs that you don't have personal liability for debts and civile liabililty arising from your business dealings and you will not have to record the Myrtle Beach business name. In lieu of recording a Horry County trade company name (our filing service fee includes trade name registration and newspaper legal publication for 4 weeks) you can also form a corporation in SC or form an SC LLC (starts @ $49 plus state fee for most states & includes bylaws for the corporation and Limited Liability operating agreement for the LLC that is required to open a business bank account). .
